We provide quality care and services for men and their families suffering from the crippling effects of addiction. As a non-medical treatment and recovery program, our vision is to empower men through a faith-based, 12 step recovery program. We provide extensive spiritual application and life skills to help them discover hope and God’s purpose for their lives.
More than twenty years ago and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Damascus Home of Redwater, Inc. was established. Damascus Home is a non-profit organization in accordance with Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. This ministry for recovering adults has maintained uninterrupted status with the Texas Department of State Health Services as a “Faith-based Chemical Dependency Treatment Facility” (FB3152).
In 1995, Jim Cooley found freedom from his own drug and alcohol addiction and unconditionally surrendered his heart and life to Christ. Prior to that, during Jim’s 20+ years of addiction, he went through some of the nation’s top rehabilitation centers, to no avail.
In Christ, he found that he could have complete victory over addiction and have a new purpose for his life. Answering the call of God on his life, Jim and his wife Donna founded the Damascus Home transitional program out of a nearby house in 1996. God honored that endeavor and, as a result of the impact that Damascus Home was having on others, God provided a large campus in Maud, TX and Straight Street Restoration Center was established in 2002.
Since that time, Damascus Home ministry has established two transition homes, a men’s and a women’s treatment center and a resale store. The ministry continues to offer freedom from substance abuse and addiction through the generous support of individuals, churches and the business community.
